I didn’t think I would want to make a whole post about Ant-Man and the Wasp but I walked out of the cinema, already outlining my rant.
So I had the chance to see this film today (4 July), the first day it is released in BKK, in a 11.30am showing. (The film started closer to 12noon though.) It’s probably the first MCU film that I was able to go see so early, so I don’t have to be careful with spoilers no more!
I didn’t have that much expectation for it, because the first Ant-Man was so unexpectedly good and I’m still emotionally scarred from Infinity War.
It was such a fantastic surprise to see how enjoyable Ant-Man and the Wasp turned out to be.
Before I go any further, I have to say SPOILERS ALERT. I cannot write about these films without giving anything away so stop reading now if you haven’t seen the film yet!
Also, if you haven’t seen the film yet, I would recommend it. It was such a great summer flick and I would seriously consider going to see it again.
There will be spoilers from this point on!
I am still absolutely in love with Paul Rudd‘s Scott Lang. He was still lovable, kooky and such a doting father. Basically the same Scott Lang I fell in love with in the previous installment. His daughter, Cassie, is still adorable and I loved that she still loves him as much as in the previous film and isn’t afraid to stand by his side.
Evangeline Lilly‘s Hope Van Dyne still kicked ass and gave me life. I loved how she did the bulk of the action in this film. Like, Scott Lang would be in seriously trouble without Hope, which is very true in many, many aspects of life.
I still enjoyed Michael Douglas‘s Hank Pym and the addition of both Michelle Pfeiffer and Laurence Fishburne to the MCU GIVE ME LIFE. Especially Michelle Pfeiffer. She is such a talented actress and I cannot wait to see more of her in the MCU. Or, well, if Marvel doesn’t destroy my soul once more that is, but we’ll get to that in a bit.
Michael Peña‘s Luis still provided many the much loved comedic moments in the film. I loved his rambling narration, it’s a signature to the Ant-Man’s franchise now. And I’m glad that there was more of him in this film (I feel). Dave and Kurt were fab too, I’m glad they were all in this film.
Now, plot wise, there was A LOT going on in Ant-Man and the Wasp. And I quite enjoyed it. It didn’t feel like it was too much and when we were reminded of the other ‘side’, I went ‘Oh yeah, there are those guys too.’ It kept the momentum going and I kinda felt like it made the film less predictable somewhat…? Or may be I was just biased, lol. I truly enjoyed the film though so I was fine with the many sub-plots that intertwined together to make one big movie plot.
So it all worked out and everybody that deserved a happy, got their happy ending and I was just feeling all kind of good feelings I like to feel after a good film, when Marvel threw a bucket filled with ice water onto me.
The eff-ing first mid-credit scene.
(This is the reason why I need to write this post. And please excuse my caps lock but I have to. I have to.)
YOU CAN’T DO THIS TO US MARVEL. YOU CAN’T GIVE US A GOOD, HEARTWARMING FILM THAT WE ALL DESERVED AFTER INFINITY WAR AND THEN TURNED IT INTO ASH. LITERALLY.
YOU CAN’T TURNED 3 OF THEM INTO ASH AND LEAVE SCOTT LANG IN THE QUANTUM REALM AND CUT THE FILM.
YOU CAN’T DO THIS TO US FANS. HAVEN’T WE SUFFERED ENOUGH ALREADY FROM INFINITY WAR? CAN’T WE JUST HAVE ONE FILM TO MAKE US HAPPY AGAIN?
NO. YOU JUST HAD TO CRUSH OUR DREAMS AND MAKE US FEEL AGAIN.
You guys are the worst. Especially when the last line changed from:
“Ant-Man and the Wasp will return.”
“Ant-Man and the Wasp will return?”
MY FEELS. YOU CAN’T DO THIS TO MY FEELS AND HEART.
Eff you, Marvel Studio. Eff. You.
And then the post-credit scene with that giant ant playing the drum? That was just salt to the wound.
Thanks a lot, Marvel. Thanks a lot.
Right, ok, I’m glad I’m able to get that off my chest. Sorry about all of the caps lock and shouting and how I still can’t type the F word in full in my entry. 😂
But I was sitting there, shouting silently ‘F***’ ‘F***’ ‘SHIT’ ‘F***’ ‘SHIT’ on loop after that first mid-credit scene.
I just couldn’t believe they would do that to us. I mean, I should have expected it and people did say to me that this was probably the end game for Ant-Man and the Wasp. I suppose it was my fault for letting my guard down and was just hoping for some feel good MCU film once more. ;_____;
No such luck.
So yeah, I came home and had to watch Queer Eye to cheer me up a bit and now I’ve finished all of them so WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH MY LIFE NOW?
I’m going to go into a corner and nurse my poor fangirl’s heart back now. If I disappear for another 3 months, it’s effing Marvel Studio’s fault.
(I don’t know how to close this entry now. 😂)
Er, I hope you week is going much better than my feels…?
PS – I’m scheduling this entry to go up tomorrow because I want to keep the posting to one per day and who knows when I’ll get a new entry up so I need to spread this out. 😂
