Ladies and gents, my mind.

So, while procrastinating today (by watching Ted Ed videos which are still kind of related to work so not so much of a procrastination, more of a sidetracking), I stumbled upon this clip.

Just the title itself snagged my interest, so I pressed click and watched it.

Boy, I was not disappointed.

Go on, watch it now.

I can wait.

Done? Because whether you are a procrastinator or not, this gives the world a glimpse into the minds of us procrastinators.

As I was watching it the first time around, I couldn’t help but giggle out loud at how true it was to me. I’d never really given much thoughts to my habits before but Mr Tim Urban has captured it all so well it’s slightly scary.

And even if I’ve never gone on Google Earth to scroll from the southest (or is it most south?) part of India all the way up to the north before, I have spent countless hours on Wikipedia pages and Youtube and AO3 and MSN news and Yahoo news when the vpn doesn’t work and many other websites. Just to procrastinate from work for a moment.

My Instant Gratification Monkey is a strong and stubborn monkey. And I work best with a deadline as my Panic Monster will chase the Monkey away for a couple of days so that the Rational Decision-Maker can take the wheel for a while.

(If you don’t get the references, watch the clip. Will possibly be the best 14 minutes of your day today.)

I think I am getting better at setting self-imposed deadline, especially when it comes to work.

But it’s the other things I do for fun in life that I am still terrible at. Especially any creative work.

For one, I always wish I’d write more. There are so many plot bunnies jumping about in my head that it drives me crazy sometimes. There will be times I can almost say the words out loud and all I would need to do is to type it down somewhere.

But when I sit down in front of a blank word document, the urge to go roll around Youtube is much stronger.

Even just blogging which requires almost no planning at all! I’ve managed to finish watching one unrelated Youtube clip (DO PARENTS KNOW YOUTUBE STARS?) while I start on this blog and have another (‘DO TEENS KNOW 80s MUSIC?’) that needs a bit more time to load (which is the only reason why I’m back here blogging… >.>).

So yes, ‘EASY AND FUN’ always managed to drag me out of doing anything productive…

However, Mr Urban has managed to put things into perspective for me with his weekly Life Calendar that I think I’m motivated to allow the Monkey less time on the wheel.

Sorry, what? I got sidetracked by going on the original post of ‘Why Procrastinators Procrastinate‘ on Mr Urban’s website which consists of a lot more interesting and thoughts provoking of blog posts. I think a Mr Andrew (don’t know his last name) writes on it as well.

And while I was trying to find out the other contributor to ‘Wait But Why‘, I got sidetracked yet again and finished watching the previous Youtube clip which was opened on my other tab and started another one (‘DO TEENS KNOW 90s CARTOONS?’).

My life, ladies and gent.

Oh, but I think I’ve seen this last one on 90s cartoons so may be I’ll just let it run in the background while I finish this post up.

I just want to finish the post with a link to How to Beat Procrastination. There is light at the end of the tunnel! Will have to try harder.

(And I did end up watching the ‘DO TEENS KNOW 90s CARTOONS?’ along the way… my life… the clip has ended now.)

Mr Tim Urban, thank you for such a talk that rings so true to me.

Well, It’s nearly 9pm so I’m going to sign off here. Hope you are all having a good week!

PS – the stomach pain is back. ARGH. I have no idea what is going on. The cramping is slightly worse this time but more periodic if that makes sense? It’s not aching all the time but when the stomach muscles are contracting, I feel like I want to double over. It actually woke me up this morning at freaking 4am. And I couldn’t go back to sleep. FML. Hopefully, it’ll be better tonight.

Rest time

Greetings from Thailand!

A part of me thought that I wouldn’t actually get to blogging while I’m at the beach. And another part feels like I should be blogging twice a day because I have the time!

From yesterday’s morning, before 7am.

I’m in Hua Hin at the moment, staying at a resort that I used to come as a child so that’s an extra bonus for me.

I’ve been living a healthy life for the past couple of days. Might not be the healthiest because I’ve been stuffing myself sick with food as one would in Thailand xD But I’ve been sleeping at 9pm and up at around 6am as well as swimming laps in the pool.

My aunt has also commented how ‘fair’ I got after living in China, which was unexpected because I tan very easily. But it still kind of made sense since I suppose I haven’t seen that much sun recently. I have got my tan back now that I’ve been swimming in the sun, lol.

I’ll actually head down to the pool very soon now, just waiting for my stomach to digest breakfast enough that I won’t get sick while swimming. I’ve been aiming to do 15 laps each time I hit the pool (the pool is around 50 metres long) and have hit that mark for 3 times now. Hoping to keep it going!

I’m watching Actors on Actors by Variety on YouTube at the moment. Have the one with Carey Mulligan and Elizabeth Banks now, was watching Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan before (which was the first one I’ve seen from this series).

Carey Mulligan and Elizabeth Banks talked about Carey’s latest film, ‘Suffragette‘ and they showed a clip of the film. Lo and behold, Ben Whishaw cropped up yet again. This is the third time he’s turned up in a film I didn’t expect him to. I saw him in a clip in ‘Lobster‘ as well. Good on you Ben!

Anyway, other that having YouTube on as the background, I also have the NHK channel on as well because it’s available on the hotel’s TV cable xD

Right, I think that’s enough random rambling from me. I should go down and hit the pool now. Time to swim off some of the food I ate this morning! xD

Of Spice Girls and holiday

I have about half an hour before I start getting ready to leave so I thought I’d blog. Listening to ‘The Very Best Of Spice Girls’ now and it’s proving to be a very good album to put on while blogging xD

I’m putting a pause on the food review, though I am quite behind on that, and just want to update on ‘life’. Y’know, this being a blog and all.

*Sighs* Man, it has been one hell of a week. No, scratch that, it’s been one hell of a half term. I know I’ve mentioned it in this post already how stressful work has been but I just want to rant some more xD

There was what felt like an overwhelming amount of work crushing me about a few weeks ago, not to mention about having to go into work last Saturday too. I know it was partly my fault for not finishing up work, but it’s my first year and I just wasn’t sure about my judgement. Still not now but it’s out of my hands now so there’s no point worrying about it right? Right?

Well, I’m not sure if I’m still subconsciously stressing over it or not because I haven’t been able to get a good night sleep for 2 nights in a roll now. And this is straight after getting sick.

I haven’t been so unwell that I had to take a day off work in a couple of years and I’m a bit annoyed that it has now ruined my plan to get a perfect year of no sick leave. But then health is more important, I was feeling like I was about to keel over on Wednesday so there was no point of me staying at work.

Yes, I did try and go into work on Wednesday. I already came home early on Tuesday and didn’t feel too bad. But I woke up on Wednesday feeling worse (which I didn’t think was possible) and it was actually painful having to walk to the bus stop.

Of course, me being silly, still dragged my sick self to work and stayed for a few hours. Then I realised that I wasn’t going to last the whole day and should just come home to rest.

So I came back to the flat and just lay on the couch. I had to put the fan heater on as well as use the blanket and my coat to keep me warm. I actually fell asleep and had to literally drag myself to get some food for lunch so I can take more medicine. I was sick of my crackers diet at that point but didn’t want to risk upsetting my stomach further so I chalked it down.

Then I proceeded to pass out again till the evening, when the low fever broke. I dragged myself to a shower and came out feeling more humane again, thank goodness.

I’m feeling pretty much ok now and am back to normal diet, though strong tea still scares me a little. Not that it stopped me from having a PG Tips cuppa this morning. I got around with not wasting a perfectly good tea bag but needed weaker tea by using 1 teabag to make 3 cups of tea 😉 Works perfectly.

I slept all right last night but still woke up way to early for my liking. I lounged around in bed, reading on my phone a bit before deciding to just get up and do the laundry. I’m flying home today but the flight won’t be till nearly 4pm so I’m just enjoying a nice, chilling time on the couch with my feet up. And apparently, with Spice Girls on xD

It turns out many of their songs are familiar to me, though my get go song is still Wannabe. But ‘Say You’ll Be There’, ‘Stop’, ‘Move Over’ and ‘Too Much’ all makes me feel nostalgic and weirdly content. I also definitely know ‘Goodbye’ but never registered that it’s a Spice Girls song…

Anyway, the air quality has been horrendous in GZ for the past couple of days. I wonder if that contributes to my state… It’s also getting warmer and warmer in GZ, I actually have to put the fan on today to keep cool xD

Though, it will be a lot hotter back in BKK… I’m so glad we are hitting the beach tomorrow. If not for the relaxation by the seaside, the hotel’s AC will make the trip worthwhile.

Oh, the alarm just went off. I set it to remind myself to make an early lunch and do the final tidy up/packing so I can leave for the airport early-ish.

Right, I’m not sure how active blogging wise I can be while I’m on this break. I am giving myself a complete break, with no work whatsoever because goodness knows I need it. Though I do want to get to my writing again, my close cousins are also going on this trip to the beach so I may spend time catching up and swimming in the pool instead. We’ll see.

Right, food awaits and Thailand beckons. I’ll see you on the other side.

Hope you all have a brilliant weekend guys!

With love,

From GZ

PS – I finally finished watching Constantine this morning after having watched the first half an hour or so last Saturday, then got through most of it last night but had the last few minutes left which I finished this morning xD

Keanu Reeves was so gorgeous in this film I can’t even. xD Me and another friend were gushing over him in this film and Speed last night while our male friend just rolled his eyes. *sighs dreamily*

I also really like mythical stories, including biblical ones so this film hits all the right spots for me. So good. Can’t believe it’s taken me nearly 11 years to get around to this!
